PRESIDENTS IN THE GARDEN

FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT

#32 (1933-1945)

FDR was not much for gardening, bur Eleanor had a passion for gardens.  She was responsible for the establishment of Victory gardens throughout the United States during WWII.  Interestingly, the Department of Agriculture at first objected to the planting of a victory garden at the White House for fear it would hurt the Food industry.

“I had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalog: ‘No good in a bed, but fine against a wall.’" -Eleanor Roosevelt
